What are the provisions of the Patriot Act section that limits account transfers between savings and checking? I'm concerned about a part of the Patriot Act that deals with this. Apparently, your savings account can be closed if you make more than 6 tranfers over a consecutive three month period from your savings account to checking account. Does the law differentiate between types of transfers, i.e. phone, computer, ATM, branch, etc...
How do I get checks for my checking account? I have a checking account with a Credit Union, and today I was sent a credit card payment thingy and I have to pay for it...I just naturally thought the money would get deducted from my checking account. But guess not, so now I need to know how to get checks...lol, I know sound dumb. But yea, I never had to deal with these things until now. Thanks!
Can I open a new checking account even If I have one that has a outstanding bill? OK I had a checking account at National City for a while but after a incident that got the account over drawn and it ended up getting closed. At first I didn't think it was big deal as I was able to open a new checking account at a credit union where I had a saving account but when I tried to set one up at Chase, they said they couldn't due to fact that National City needed to be dealt with. Now I've heard there are some places that will look past this (Wal-Mart supposedly has some guilt-free checking account) , but I dont't wanna go anyplace to shady or nothing.
How many of you have gone in the negative in your checking account more than once? I'm beginning to think that debit cards are just as bad as credit cards. I always hear of people complaining about how much overdraft charges are when they're checking account goes into the negative. Have any of you experienced going into the negative more than once ... maybe a lot? If you did, how did you deal with the problem?
I have negative $ in my checking account at wamu, should i be worried? It appears that i have -$5 in my checking. Should i deal with this right away? How worried should i be? do i have to do it by today? can i wait a day? thanks I just had that fixed. The teller told me no charge on the first day!
Is it illegal for a bank to open a business checking account to a company whose owner has a state tax lien? We wanted to move our business checking account to another bank offering more services and were denied an account because of a state tax lien. Is this the law or is this the bank not wanting to deal with any hassle of a bank levy? The tax debt has since been put into a reorganization wage earner bankruptcy and is being paid every month. Would we be able to propose this to the new bank and have a better chance of getting an account or is just a legal matter that they cannot. The tax lien will stay on our credit report until it is completely paid (not for a while yet)
Will a credit union check my credit score for a checking account? I am interested in opening a checking/savings account with a credit union. Have never dealt w/ credit unions, any information is appreciated. My credit is *currently...

I will be opening an online business and am trying to find the best bank to open a checking account with. Help? I will be opening an online business and am trying to find the best bank to open a checking account with. Help? I would prefer one with little to no fees. Downey Savings is out because you have to keep a minimum balance. Originally I was going to go with WAMU, but due to the merger with JP Morgan I am not sure I want to deal with all the happenings of the switchover. Please help. Can I tie a debit/check card to a savings account instead of a checking account? I'm looking into getting a check card (I'd like to get a Regions/Visa as I have a savings account with them) because I'm going to be spending about three weeks in China this summer and I don't want to deal with the many different currencies. Also, I'm sixteen, do I qualify for a card?
Could I still get a free checking account from Wamu? I am about to get a free checking account. I wanted to start a small one. The $25 miminum balance ones. I was wondering, could I still go to a Wamu and open a free checking account? I know they are become Chase Bank now. I live in Tucson, Arizona. I am kind of confused. I have been hearing a lot of rumors. I would like to know the real deal. I don't want to do Bank of America, and I always wanted a Wamu account. thank you.
What can I do if an Internet vendor took unauthorized money out of my account? An internet online store made and unauthozed debit from my checking account. I have dealt with this vendor for 2 years. What can I do if they refuse to credit the money back plus any overdraft fees incurred.
What to do about my fiance using my checking account? My fiance uses my checking account without my permission. We live together so it's not like I can hide it from him when he already has my account #. We made a deal that he could use it as long as he put money in to cover whatever he uses it for. But everytime he uses it he never puts money in and than my account gets overdrawn. Should I close out my account and open a new one without his knowledge? We discussed it and I thought we both agreed but obviously not.I do love him but just not the way he handles money.
What's better, a checking account or a prepaid credit card? I pay all my bills online or over the phone. I don't ever use my debit card and I only write checks as a last resort. Would it be a better deal for me to put my money in something like a prepaid Visa or Green Dot card?
If you open a checking account does a bank make an inquiry on your report? If so why? I thought banks dealt with something called checksystems. I never thought they did an inquiry on my report. I really absolutely have no idea - help. I've never noticed it on my credit report.
Can you get a checking account debit card witout the visa logo on it? Or the MC logo? I don't want it to be able to be run as credit. I want to be forced to type a 4 digit pin. This is in case I lose it - someone does not go out on a shopping spree. And then I would have to deal with fraud at the bank. Banks used to - years ago. But do they still do this for customers that request an ATM/debit card only - without the credit part of it?
A person can choose between two charges on a checking account. The first method involves a fixed cost of $11? per month plus 6cents for each check written. The second method involves a fixed cost of $4 per month plus 20cents for each check written. How many checks should be written to make the first method a better deal? Please show all steps THank You!
Where can I get a second chance checking account? I'm dealing with ChexSystems right now so I can't get a regular one but I need something, so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
where can I get an online checking account? I was denied with ING direct due to my credit score, which means I could not get a line of overdraft protection. I really wanted a awesome account like electric orange, what else can I do, or where can I go get one. I really do not want to deal with traditional brick banks anymore. Thanks
The best checking account for college students? I'm about to be going to UGA and I need to know what bank would give me the best deal. There is a Suntrust on campus, but I've heard there are other ATM's on campus. Thank you!
Should I get a checking account? I'm making more money now a days, and am a college student. However, I still don't trust getting a checking account- mainly because all the banks I've looked into seem to all have hidden cons to them. Chase seems fine until you have to deal with Direct Deposit in order to have no monthly fees. I keep hearing Washington Mutual gives bad customer service despite free checks, and Bank of America is charging you hundreds of dollars if you mess up once. Why should I put my money in a bank when I will get ripped off with fees? Id rather cash my checks and keep the money in my safe at home- I mean, that way I don't have to worry about hidden fees. And yea I run the risk of getting robbed, but its never happened to me before. Any advice on a trustworthy bank, or should I just opt for a savings?
Where can I find good deals on banking? I am looking for a deal to open a new checking account, where can I find good deals? e.g. cash bonus or other incentives? 10pts for the best answer. Thanks!
Why won't my credit union allow me to close my checking account? I've been trying to close my account for 2 years now. It was my vacation account. I know longer want to deal with this credit union. Now when I go in to ask that my account be closed...they refuse. It just seems suspicious to me. What agency can help me get this account closed? It doesn't have a negative balance. They told us that we had to keep $10.00 in the account. So...there has been $10.00 in the account for the past two years.
BANK OF AMERICA is having a promo right now for new clients who want to open a checking account? when you open up a saving (minimuim to open it is $250) and you receive $100 dollars just for opening it so i was wondering if there is some type of catch with this sorta deal?
How do you revoke a creditors right to ACH debit your checking account? Don't account holders have rights too? All I want to do it force Cash Call to deal with me directly and stop costing me money in fees with my bank. I want to revoke their authorization. Do you have to do it on the creditor end and bank end as well, or do you just need to revoke it from the creditor and what is the best way to go about that. I'm talking about Cash Call specifically. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
How do I get a loan to deal with overdrafted checking account, credit cards & payday loans? I have about 1000$ i owe in payday loans and 2 credit cards i've been missing payments on. I am also -300$ in my bank account. I have learned, never to take out a payday loan again because they charge so much interest and will mess everything up with your money issues rather than helping them. Whats some sort of bigger loan I can take out to catch up on my payments, even though I have horrible credit. Please help.

You can choose between two charges on a checking account. The first method involves a fixed cost of $11 per? per month plus $.06 for each check written. The second method involves a fixed cost of $4 per month plus $.20 for each check written. How many checks should be written to make the first method a better deal? Please Please show all steps.
What would you tell my stepson about the advantages of a checking account vs. doing everything with cash? He is 21 years old, and he does have a checking account and credit card with a very solid credit union, which also offers electronic banking & bill-paying. However, he prefers to get cash for his paychecks, and then save the cash in his room. He pays his bills by driving around town and paying them in cash, in person. Sometimes he asks us to pay some of his bills, giving us cash and then having us pay the bills by credit card or from our checking account, to avoid writing a check himself, and to avoid dealing with checks, envelopes, stamps, updating check registers, etc. Recently he gave me cash and asked me to buy a plane ticket online with my credit card, because he preferred doing it this way rather than using his own credit card. What advice would you give this young man?
I'm buying a house. The underwriters want money in my checking account.? I have a check for $1,000. The mortgage Company doesnt want me to deposit all of it in my checking account because it will raise eyebrows. The check is for payment on a house someone is buying from me. What is the big deal?

Will Wells Fargo charge me for not having a direct deposit in my checking account? Ive been thinking about opening up a checking account to avoid having to deal with cash and change. Im 18 years old and i only work in the summer so if i were to open up a checking account with Wells Fargo, will they charge me for not having a direct deposit into the account, let alone money coming into the account since i dont work year around? I was told that other banks charge around $12 a month for not having a direct deposit into your account. Thank you.
how do i close my checking account? ok hears the deal i am wanting to close out my checking account what do i say when i go into the bank to do so and its kinda complicated well not that big of a deal but my paycheck gets deposited in there every thursday i dont want to not have my money the next following week but i can just get it mailed to my house. But anyway thanks
Chances of getting checking account? Here's the thing. I just got a job, but it requires that I have a checking account probably for direct-deposit purposes. About 5 or so years ago, I had a checking account that had over-draft protection. I couldn't pay it back, so they closed my account. I never paid it back and I stopped getting letters from them. My husband still has an account with them. What are my chances of putting my name on his account? I called them and told them what the deal was, but without saying that is was actually their bank and they said it wouldn't matter. Thoughts? Also, what is Chexsystem? How can I find out if I am on it? Thanks!
What should I do about my credit card situation and the crappy checking account with crazy terms? I have a checking account that requires me to make a minimum of 12 debit card purchases/month. I have to do this if I want a bill pay service, which allows me to pay off a credit card at my bank and I have to use my credit card one/month. The checking account is at a credit union. True, the credit unions offer better rates, service in some manner. I got sick of my bank, Wells Fargo. They charged fees for normal things like more than six (6) transactions/month. However, they charged for overdraft that never occurred, then reimbursed me with their pants down. I didn't have any major services with them to complain about them in a great deal - just a savings and checking account. I just got a bad vibe from them. A bank should be a good bank. Wikipedia even says that they have had recent controversies over customer service lies and fees. Here's the deal: I am a student, I have no job, I have a lot of money, but that money is running out quickly with tuition. I am making the the 12 transactions/month, but I don't want to spend a lot of money. I have a credit card at Wells Fargo because they allow college students who don't work to have a card. I already closed my old accounts with Wells, and accidentally canceled the credit card, which hurt my credit. So I reapplied for the credit card. So I'm sticking with the bill pay terms. I'm 19. This is all crazy considering I don't have that many bills. Hurting my credit while living at home - stupid. It's my lack of education about credit. My family knows I switched from Wells to the credit union. I hate to switch back again. Wells let's me transfer money to my credit card with no terms or conditions. What should I do? Should I stick with the crazy bill pay? Today I bought a seashell for 25 cents and candy for 90 cents. This is kind of a headache. However, the rewards checking comes with a 3.4% APY on balances. That is the tradeoff. I may earn back what I spent. yah but you see Wells is the only bank with the college credit card. I don't want to bank with them. Maybe I should go back to them. Idk. I can carefully follow their rules, but I like the credit union, and I hate switching banks again. Everywhere else I go there will be a wire transfer or some other bill pay with terms attached. Thanks Mike. Yup, a scholarship earner I am too. I am that type of person. I care. Okay - well, yah I agree with you. The credit union does offer a bill pay service alone for $4.95/month. At least with the APY I break even or even profit. Idk, I'll figure it out soon.
Should I close checking account? My husband and I have a joint checking and most of the bills are paid from that. I give him a certain amount each payday to help with our joint bills. Plus I have my own checking account and use it for the personal bills I pay.The problem is I end up usually having a fairly low balance by the time I give him a big chunk of my check and pay my own bills. Then I must get crazy with what is left or forget to write things down because I overdraft frequently. I have overdraft protection, but it is linked to a credit card so that runs my charges up each time they add to my card balance to put it into my checking to cover the overdraft. I am very determined to get my charges paid off but with this deal I feel like a hamster in a wheel, just getting no where. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Should I get a checking or savings account? I'm 13 and...? I'm 13 and I have a new summer job this summer to help me save up for a $1,000 trip + $500 extra I want to be able to spend while on this trip. The $1,500 is the only part of the money I earn that I almost NEED to save. Anyways, the pro's of getting a kids savings account with this one program at our bank are: "Fun activities with our mascot, Max and win prizes too! Birthday greeting and a birthday gift No minimum balance requirement No monthly service charge Four free withdrawals per month, $1.00 for each additional withdrawal Quarterly newsletters and statements Interest credited quarterly Receive a special gift at account opening Rewards for savings" However, I can only withdraw money 4 times a month without an extra charge AND I can't get a paypal account (I realize with paypal you need to be 18+ anyways but if I got the checking account, the account will be technically my mom's since its under her name.) I really do want a paypal because I always see much better deals online for clothes and stuff then at malls. I'm kinda leaning towards the checking account because I'm VERY good at spending my money and really evaluating an item before I buy it and I'm not at all the type of person to go and bounce a check. So, according to all that, should I get a checking or a savings account?
$100 free with opening a checking account? I was thinking about opening my first checking account and I saw an ad on TV that said they would give you $100 if you opened one with them. It might of been about a week ago.. Any places that give you a deal would totally help me out!
i want to open a checking account but im in chexsystem? i need a bank in california that don't deal with chexsystems
What is a good no fee checking account? I am a full time student and I don't have a job so I don't want any monthly fees or minimum balances or hidden ATM fees. I just want something I can deposit my 529 account checks with and use a debit card to pay for tuition and books. I was looking into Ally but I heard you can't buy stuff from Amazon with that, and Amazon has some good deals on books sometimes so =/
is there any downside to high interest checking accounts? Rivermark community credit union offers a checking account that pays 5.1% with now minimum balance and no fees. the only catch is that you have to make 12 debit card transactions per month. Given that this rate is significantly higher than any current CD or savings rates, i cant see any downside to this deal. is there any danger to using this type of account as an alternative to putting money into a CD or other type of savings? If anybody has experience with this type of account, i would appreciate their input on this subject.
Is there is bank that i can opening up an account with that does deal with third party checks? Is there is bank that i can opening up an account with that does deal with third party checks so my brother can opening up an checkings account and i need to deposit my check into his account, banks in the USA located in ILLINOIS
When you bounce a check, is it bounced with your checking account, or with your name & DL number? I have two that i bank at, my husband only one. We BOTH are on his checking account however.. well, it was hijacked last week for over $1500, and when this occurred over 4 checks were bounced. Well yes, we are dealing with and going through the ropes blah blah blah, however the bank will not refund the money until we prove we it was stolen... yea SUCKS. Well, because of all this we have 4 bounced checks and can no longer write a check almost anywhere because we are in 'check systems' through his checking account. Now, will this follow ME through MY bank account? Since my name and Drivers license number is on his bank as well?! Or will this only not allow checks to be written through HIS bank UNTIL we get all this straightened out?? Please no lectures on identity theft... Yes we are canceling his bank account as soon as one bill passes through.
Would it make any difference to the lender/underwriter if I put my down payment into a savings account? The deal for our last house fell through, so now we are looking for another one. Right now the down payment is in our checking account, but I would like to move it into a savings account so i don't accidentally delve into it. Would that make any kind of difference to the lender/underwriter?
does my account have to have a checking account? okay so here's the deal, my mother says somethings wrong with her bank account and she needs to put deposit her pay into mine. I have a savings account at horizon bank and she is telling me i need a checking account so her work can put money in my account! And I repetitively kept asking why cant they just put in with my saving account? Why does it have to be checking account! It all sounds fishy to me, and my friend said same thing! I honestly don't trust my mom, and i'm afraid she's somehow gonna screw me over! please let me know of why i would need a checking account or if I don't! Thank you for taking your time to read and answer my question!
i have a checking account, could the creditors take money out my account? all i have is a delinquent credit card account. i don't owe anyone else money. i only had one cheap visa card. i owe the credit card company $400 and i already settled a deal with the creditor but could they take money out my checking account? are they allowed to do that? i didn't tell the creditor that i had a checking account. all i told him was that i have a debit card ,and the debit card i have isn't even connected with my checking account. it's one of those's loadable credit cards.
Chase Checking account closed? I opened a Chase Checking Account about a year ago, around October or November I believe. I used the account frequently while I had my job, but in July I was fired( I was only 18 so no big deal) but with out any cash-flow I had no need to use my account so it has been inactive. Im looking into another job now so I decided to look at my account online. I was able to log in, but there are no accounts! Has my account been closed and if so how do i re-open it? (I dont know if this matters but I no longer have my Chase Debit Card)
Avoiding bank checking account scams? A friend of mine has a relative who's getting a little flaky, and gives out her checking account number to scamming phone solicitors. They then use the number to make unauthorized withdrawals from the account by phone or by automatic debits. Surprisingly, anyone who has the name and account number can make withdrawals like that. He doesn't want to have the person declared incompetent, so dealing with this banking issue in a way that allows the person to continue to have an account is becoming a very difficult problem. Is it possible to use a commercial "positive pay" account (where only checks of which the bank has been notified will be honored) to solve this problem? Would phone or debit withdrawals be locked out on such an account? Can an individual easily open such a business account? What would the fees be like? Thanks for any help you can provide. Just making it a joint account doesn't solve the problem. Phone or debit withdrawals are signed or authorized by either party on the account--they just go through. The bank presumes that anyone with the name and number on the account has been authorized by the owner. Sad but true. I meant "are NOT signed or authorized by either party."
Should I put all my money into checking account for simplicity, or add savings? Since interest rates are low at this time, would opening up a savings account do much? I currently have 10k. I was thinking about putting 5k in checking, another 5k in savings. But, would this really matter? or should I just put it all in one simple checking? Since im banking at US Bank, bank representatives are trying to get paid more by enticing me to open up a new account with this $50 gift card visa (S.T.A.R.T.) deal every year for maintaining $1000 balance on savings. Besides in one work day, I make around $100-150 as a waiter.
Can you open a checking account when you owe another bank? My boyfriends got in debt with bfa a few months back due to overdraft fees and was paying lil by lil but due to him losing his job he couldn't afford anymore payments that the bank closed his account and reported him to a collection agency. (The LTD Financial Service L.P). So far hes made a deal with them and has been making monthly payments and only owes about $100 dollar now. He wants to open a new checking account because he need one for his new job and was thinking of using chase. Could he open a new account with then if so what would he need and if not what could he do he has a check he needs to cash and soon.
What's the best deal for a free payment account? Free Checking vs. Pre-Loaded/Pre-Paid VISA card? I recently purchased from a new online store. I have been shopping safely & securely on the 'net since um like 1995 or so, so I'm not new at it by any means. This site was new to me though. Today I checked my online banking acct and found out that somebody (not me!) had put a $95.00 charge on my debit card. I called my bank and I think they're going to take care of it and NOT charge any overdraft fees and they canceled my debit card. They gave some helpful advice though that I have never thought of.. The bank lady said she has 3 different checking accounts at the same bank which are ALL free/no fee since she splits her direct deposit into all 3 accts - She has one for just bills, one for "fun" and one for ... I don't remember.. her purpose...... Anyway since they all have a direct deposit amount every month, they're all free, w/o any fees! I did not know you can split a direct deposit!? Why don't they tell you these things?????? When she shops online, which she says she does often!! aha - kindred spirit lol - She uses her fun acct (and just transfers the needed amount of money from one of the other accts to that one). That way if something hunky happened - it wouldn't affect her bill acct or the other one!! I think that's ingenious! My fiance thinks a pre-loaded/pre-paid VISA debit card would be a better way of accomplishing the same thing. I'm sure there are pros & cons to both methods. Wondering if any of you guys have tried these methods and have preferences? Where have I been? Okay obviously not on the forefront of the banking industry's changes. But when I have filled out the direct deposit forms I have not noticed anything like: .... this amount $___ to this institution/routing #/etc... .... this amount $___ to this institution/routing #/etc... .... this amount $___ to this institution/routing #/etc... So think it must be in the fine print. Thus - my point - that they don't seem to make it obvious or advertise the fact that you can split a direct deposit.
what if i cancel my checking account? I have a big issue, i currently have a credit that is cancel but owe them money and currently have a deal with the credit card company to take a certain amount of money every month from my checking account until i finished paying it off..the problem is im going thru a hard time and i cannot make those payments anymore, i called them but they dont want to stop it..i called chase and they say to contact the company i set up the payment in the first place,,,my question is if i cancel my chase account will the credit card company still be able to get the money from my close chase account and will chase pay them even if the account is close???? i just dont want to be owing chase and the credit card company at the same time, i dont mind if the company ends up taking me to collection,..by the way i currently have a good relation with chase i dont owe them money and have a positive balance on my account. is just that i have bigger responsability at the moment (family) and need the money.....thank you
My Fiance and I live together and share a joint checking account...? We have a joint checking account and have an open and honest relationship. He deposits his check there, I have two jobs and deposit one there and the other, significantly smaller check, use to pay a weekly bill. We had talked about it and had agreed to keep it this way. Since I got my first paycheck, I have always kept 20-30 dollars hid away in my billfold for emergency situations. (Done this since I was 18, am 27 now) I usually forget all about this money. We were going over bills and noticed we were going to be overdrawn by 20-30 dollars, he asked if I had any cash to deposit. I told him I did and he asked where it was and How I got it. I told him about my emergency cash. (Which I had failed to earlier in our relationship- didn't think it was a BIG deal. And we hadn't have to use it.) He accused me of lying to him about it and said he felt cheated that I couldn't trust him, just because I didn't tell him about my emergency cash stash!! I'm confused. Please help!
Which bank offers a teen checking account? I am 14 years old turning 15 years and I want a checking account to get a debit card so I can make purchases online and to make my living a little bit easier. Also learn how to deal with money for future uses and build up some experience on using a debit card. I want a checking account which I can withdraw/deposit money and also a debit card for ATM purposes. Do you know which bank offers it? Do my parents have to be in the thing? If my parents name have to be in with mine, can "I" still withdraw/deposit money on my own and use the ATM? Which bank offers a teen checking account for ages under 18?
If my bank closed my old checking account? About a year ago, I was very stupid and allowed my checking account to go negative. By the time I realized that I needed to get it paid, the bank had closed the account due to insufficiant funds. I didn't realize it was going to be such a big deal but I'm afraid now that I won't be able to get another account at a bank because of it. So I was wondering is there any chance that I could get a bank to give me a second chance or is it just too late. Could I get a savings account or not any accounts? Because I'd be fine with just a savings account to build repute with a bank. Any suggestions or hints would be helpful.
Negative Balance In Checking Account...? Long story short, I totally messed up my checking account through my local credit union, and now I am in the hole over $500. It was my mistake of course, no denying that, but they just contacted me to let me know I have two weeks (which makes it about 30 days since going into the negative) to bring it to a positive balance or they will cancel my account and pursue legal action. I have every intention of paying this back, I can also understand terminating my account, but is there anything I can do to buy some more time before they "pursue legal action"? The bank manager will NOT knock off any amount of the overdraft fees, even though this is my first time going into the negative. What are my options for buying more time to pay this debt back? Or any other advice you can give me about how to deal with this mess? Yes I know it was my fault, I don't need a lecture, just some advice. Thanks in advance! Yeah it was a lot of oops! I was gone on vacation and forgot to make the deposit before I left, so multiple things went through before I could get back to make the deposit. I feel like an idiot because I am always on top of these things, live and learn I guess...
What's the difference between a checking account and a savings account? Hi! Key Bank is has a lot of offers/rewards going on right now dealing with switching to their bank. The offer says that you get an Ipod Touch if you: Open one of the following checking accounts by July 30, 2010, and Make one KeyBank Rewards debit card transaction, plus A combination of two direct deposits and/or automated payments each of $100 or more by October 1, 2010 Okay, so I want the Ipod Touch. I've been wanting one but I didn't feel that I should spend my savings. The only problem is that I'm 13, and I'm not sure if I could have a credit card. I have enough money to do this (I would get it from my savings account). Q1: Is it possible that I could do this? Or am I too young? Q2: Could you treat a checking account as a savings account? Like, I would make one transaction like it says so that I can get the offer, but I probably wouldn't touch it more than that, other than deposits. Thanks! 10 points best answer. Yeah, so I went and I'm too young :(
