What are the benefits of having two checking accounts at different banks ? Today I opened a checking account at TD Canada Trust, I've got my other checking account at CIBC which I had for years. I was thinking of closing my CIBC checking account, however I've been thinking and think it would be good to have two checking accounts at two different banks. What do you think are the benefits in doing this ? Jordan
How long does it take to get out of any system for bouncing checks or having checking accounts closed? It has been 7 years since I had a checking account, and when I was in college I had 3 or 4 accounts closed, due to insuffecient funds and bouncing checks. I have taken classes on checking accounts and am ready to have an account again, so I can build credit with a bank and buy a home one day. Does anyone know what banks check when you go to open an account and how long any poor information is kept in the systems they look at. Thanks!
What is the best bank for multiple checking accounts? I'd like to split my budget into multiple checking accounts for budgeting purposes...a food account, gas account, clothes account, etc. I'd have my current account set up as my bill account and then transfer money into each of the separate accounts for my spending. Are there any banks out there that cater toward this type of setup in checking accounts?
Is there a bank where I can open multiple checking accounts? I'm looking for a way to make the envelope system of budgeting work for me, but in the modern day world. I'd like to get multiple checking accounts if not accounts under one checking with debit cards from all of them (lets say 5). Then divide my check appropriately to each checking sub checking and use particular debit cards if its groceries, me, school, debt, etc. Is there a bank out there cares about thei customers enough so that they allow their customers to open multiple accounts to budget better? Thanks in advance for your help. I currently use an XLS worksheet to budget and i have budgetted myself for 12months in advance. It changes as i go but i would like to be able to seperate accounts.
How can i make money selling checking and savings accounts? Does anyone know how i could make money independently promoting banking products like checking accounts, savings accounts, IRA's and CD's. How often does a bank do an audit of people's checking accounts? Hello, Does anyone know how often a bank checks accounts that people have with them for mistakes? I have a checking account that has a mistake and it's been 2 months and they have not fixed it. Thanks for your help. The mistake resulted in my account having $200 more than what is should be, so I expect the bank to catch this but it's been 2 months and the $200 is still in my account.
Is it a good idea to have 2 checking accounts? I am wondering if there is a benefit to managing money with 2 checking accounts. I am thinking of using one for my regular bills and another or everything else. I am not too concerned about if my bank fails, but would it be better to have two different banks or use the same one for both accounts?
Does opening many checking accounts effect my credit rating? I have been consistently recieving offers from my bank to open new checking accounts which will have 100 dollars transfered into them upon opening them. They send one about every month. I've opened 2 so far for the cash and closed them, and I was curious, if I keep this up is there anything that can go wrong?
Anyone at a small bank now being charged fees for checking accounts? The big boys such as Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, etc have started charing for checking accounts in some states (if not all). Small banks are not charging for checking accounts. Or are they? There are fees for such things as no maintaining a minimum, or not having direct deposit. Monthly fees - not overdraft fees.
What bank in California offers Teen Checking Accounts? I'm fourteen years old living in San Clemente, California. How long does a bank need to keep records on closed checking accounts.? I closed a checking account at a bank about 4 years ago. Between now and then that bank was purchased by another institution who then basicly shut its doors. Does the purchasing bank have to keep the records of all closed accounts the original bank had? And if so for how long? I closed a checking account at a bank about 4 years ago. Between now and then that bank was purchased by another institution who then basicly shut its doors. Does the purchasing bank have to keep the records of all closed accounts the original bank had? And if so for how long? I ask this question Muffie, because I was contacted by a Debt Recovery group claiming that I owed Sprint money on an account that was closed and paid in full 4 years ago. Sprint conviently destroyed any and all records pertaining to my account severly limiting my chances of proving their mistake. My only other option is a bank statement showing the payment they claim I owe was in deed paid. But thanks for trying to help Muffie.
What is the best bank for personal savings and checking accounts??? I am looking to move all of my personal savings and checking accounts into a new bank because going to the small credit union I currently use is very inconvenient. I want to find the best, preferably nationwide, bank for personal accounts. I live in TX, in The Colony but work in Carrollton and frequently go to DFW Airport for business. I have only about 50k in savings and want to start paying bills online. I would like free checking and ATMs too. I want a bank that isn't heavy on the fees and has good operating hours. The banks I know that are in the area are Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Century Bank, Washington Mutual and Chase. Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated since I don't have the time to do my own research. Thanks in advance!

What do banks charge you for with checking accounts? I have the college checking account with Chase and I was wondering if they take money out for certain services. I know they charge for overdrawing but are there other charges I need to know about? Also, I have $1000 cash that I want to just save. Would it be smart to put that in my checking account or my safe?
Why wont banks let teens have checking accounts? I don't think it is fair that banks do not let teens have checking accounts. I am a responsible teen, and I'd like to save up for college or as an emergency fund when I need it, therefore, I'd like an ATM card. The only banks that allow teen checking is Chase, which your parent has to have a "qualifying" checking account, or a bank which your parent also has to have an account at with a relative with military service. I know all about credit, loans, income, more than the average teen knows about finances. Opinions?
What is the best way to switch checking accounts? We have had our checking account for 5 years and we have automatic bill payments coming out of it for at least 10 bills. Where we are moving that bank is not withing STATES of us, and we want a bigger bank where we can use ATMs and do actual banking if we needed to. Is there a certain process I should do, slowly maybe, to get all the automated payments changed without OVER drafting our old account? HELP/ADVICE please!
What is the best bank in Chicago for checking and savings accounts? I want to switch from Citibank to a new bank in Chicago. I live downtown and there are so many options. Can banks deny savings accounts like they can checking accounts? I know people that are on ChexSystems or have poor credit often cannot open checking accounts at banks. But, can these individuals open savings accounts by default? Is there perhaps a state or federal law requiring banks to offer savings accounts to those who want one?
What are most people paying for fees on their checking accounts? Even with free checking, they always seem to hit me with fees for things, like adding another $2 to the $3 ATM fee for using another bank's ATM. I do have free online banking, which is very convenient, and keep more than $5000 in my checking account. Should I be doing better? I used the other bank's ATM because I was travelling and there was no branch of my bank in the area.
Free checking accounts will be a thing of the past-has your bank made the change yet? Any changes in fees at your bank? Now that they can't make $$$$ in overdraft charges they will have to make up for the cost of maintaining your account. WSJ reported that it costs between $250 to $300 a year for a bank to maintain your checking. Forgot to add - You will still get free checking if you keep minimums of $500 to $1,000 - maybe.
What incentives are NYC banks offering for opening checking accounts? I'm moving to Brooklyn soon, starting a new job. I don't care so much about the number of ATMs a bank has. I want one that has no fees whatsoever for checking and that even offers an incentive for opening an account. For example, PNC offers $100 for opening a direct deposit checking account, but they are not in NYC.
