Checking Account Deals

What are the best bank account deals for a 16 year old?

Recently I have decided to give my son a bank account, but I am wondering what are the best deals for him. He is 16 and living in the UK and going onto college from secondary school. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the best deals from past experience, as sometimes the branches give deals i.e. train card, etc. If anyone can help or give a link to a good deal would be extremely helpful. :)

  1. I'm 16 and just upgraded to a Barclays Young Persons Account. I think it is very good, the interest is okay, but obviously in these times nowhere has good interest. I find that the online banking feature is very useful for transfering money to other accounts and my savings account. Not sure if there are any other perks as i haven't had the account that long, but I think barclays is a good bank to put your money in.
  2. well I Was gonna bank of america.. bt nevermind.. but you could try to see if any banks offer a Student Account. That's what I gt, it's really good, all basic need, no interest no charges & no minimum either.. but could be different in different banks.. idk they're, for students. College students & kids 18 & younger
  3. Go to one of your local small-town banks if you have one. They are nicer to work with than the big banks like Bank of America and their ilk. You may need a minor account with a parent as a co-signer.
